Halloween 2008

Last Minute Vampire

In all the pre-Halloween excitement, Luke had decided he was going to be a repeat of last year's costume - the chicken. But only 1 hour before Trick-or-Treat, Mommy resurrected the costume from the back of the closet only to discover it was a size 2T! That's right - Luke had refused to wear it when he was 2 so we wore it last year when he was 3 but now that he's thickened up to a strong age 4, it was way too small. Luckily, Luke was in a flexible mood and enticed by all the face painting that was going on and he decided that he would repeat Jack's 1st grade costume and be a vampire. All was good for about 10 minutes until he spit out the teeth saying "they hurt his real teeth". Then 1 house into trick or treating, when he realized he could not keep up with the big kids, he threw a 4 year old tantrum and went what we call "boneless".....limp as a noodle riding around in the wagon. Eventually, he trick or treated a few houses with Daddy at the end of the night but had no problem telling people he was too worn out to trick or treat. What an independent little spirit. So daddy took him home to pass out candy and Luke proceeded to dig a big hole next to our mailbox for the rest of the night. He told us it was a tunnel and once he went in we should cover him up. Imagination is priceless!

Beautiful Butterfly

Posted by Picasa
Thanks to Essi's artistic ability, our beautiful butterfly had a very pretty face painting to go along with her wings, tutu and tights and antenna. Maya was the first to pick her costume this year way back in early September. We had a last minute worry when the one antenna fell off and Mommy had to wire things back together late at night before the school costume parade. But all turned out well and Maya's first classroom Halloween party was so much fun. They played 'pass the pumpkin' and Mommy got to come and watch how much Maya really delights in her friends at school. She also trick or treated with her friend Graci from her class who also lives in our neighborhood. Graci's older sister Katie is in 3rd grade with Jack and tried her best to keep up with Elvis but like most mean 8 year old boys, Jack left Dorothy in her ruby slippers behind. (Mommy wasn't so happy with that!)

Little Red Riding Hood

Macie had a glorious Halloween riding around in the wagon and soaking her costume with sucker drool the entire evening. Little Red Riding Hood nicely kept her hood on, carried her basket and ate her first piece of candy (a tootsie roll) paper and all before Mommy even noticed. At 9 PM (1 hour past bedtime), she was literally jumping up and down on the front step with squeels of delight.

Thank ya, Thank ya very much!

Jack as "Elvis". The wig and glasses from the local temporary halloween store and the suit off the internet. He was boiling hot as it was a vinyl suit and a 70 degree trick or treat night!

Team Ohio FC Fall 2008

Another soccer season is behind us. This fall Jack played with the Team Ohio FC U9 Green Team. This is the same club as last year but they've merged with Team Ohio. (I don't know exactly what all that means for us in club soccer speak but everyone who does know tells us its a good thing. Most important is that we like the players, coaches and parents and everyone has fun!) Jack played in his age group this year instead of playing up so he got a little more playing time but also felt a little more pressure to perform....in a good way. He's a good competitor that tries his hardest but doesn't get too overly emotional. For the first time ever I saw him upset when they lost a game but it was more because of how he played personally than anything else. In the past, Jack has been what we call a 'defensive specialist' but this year he got to play some front line offense which resulted in a few goals, along with his many assists. We are happy now to have a break from nightly activities but looking forward to a fun spring now that the team has a full season playing together.
