4 is not enough

Pictures that is!
4 kids is just perfect for us :)
I just couldn't decide and wanted to show her whole personality. Big Brother Jack simply adores her and is so much help watching Macie! Every morning while I'm in the shower, they play in the bathroom together. And Jack is the only sibling Macie will let touch her without screaming.

My Pretty Easer Dress

Every little girl needs her own beautiful new Easter dress no matter how many hand me downs are in her closet! This dress fits Macie's personality to a "T". Trendy, comfy, basic and just enough girly frill!

Macie is almost 1

She's the 4th child and it still amazes me how quickly time passes in a child's first year.

Some unique things about Macie at 1 year old:

  • She got her teeth later than all the others. The 2 bottom came in around 7 months then it was nothing! For a long time. Then all of the sudden I saw on her upper gum a tooth off to the left. Hmmmm. Never seen anything like that before. I didn't even have 2 days to sweat over it and let all the wild worrisome mom thoughts race through my head - like maybe she'll never have front teeth! Did I drink enough milk during the pregnancy? - Then the rest of them popped in pretty much all at once while mommy was away for work for a week in Switzerland. Daddy really enjoyed getting to spend the night times wrestling a teething 10 month old :) And now she is chewing and drooling like a mad ravenous dog as those back teeth start making their way through the gums. Owie!

  • Macie Jean the Spit -Up Queen. There's a title she'll never live down. FINALLY at nearly 1, she is not spitting up 4 and 5 times between each feeding. She still spits 2 to 3 times a day just to keep us on our toes but its smaller and chunkier (and apparently more interesting for her to rub all over the hard wood floor!)

  • 10% body, 80% head circumfrence. Those were her readings at around 7-8 months. And body wise, she has certainly not grown much. She still fits in her 6-9 months clothes - especially her short little legs! And she's only around 18 pounds. But she has the "Mercer Melon". Not quite the 'anvil head' that Luke was but she can take a beating. Such as close range soccer balls Jack and Luke kick around the house. Her hands and wrists and ankles and neck are more petite than I remember any of the other kids, except for maybe Jack. At this moment, I'd guess she'll stay on the smaller side but Luke was kind of like that and now he's really thickening up as well.

  • All the Mercer children (inherent in this statement is "Schiefelbein" for Jack as well!) are great talkers. Yes, it is a very noisy house. But I don't believe any of them were as loud or vocal at such a young age as Macie. She's had a joyful but rather ear piercing scream since about 4-5 months. Ma-ma-ma-ma was her first real sound (although not intentionally directed at me). And she will just look you in the face and coo and gurgle and carry on like she's giving the State of Union address. She's added Ba-Ba-Ba to her vocabulary which I do think she actually knows is for her bottle. And of course the 'leave me alone' screech is most often heard when oh-too-loving big sisters try to play mommy :)

  • If I had to make the call this early, I'd say that Macie's personality is more along the lines of Jack and Luke. She will play intently and independently for quite long periods of time. 15-20 minutes. But she still has that strange combination of Daddy's genes on estrogen so we'll know shortly!

  • I've said this about all my kids at this age. In fact, I said when Luke was this super cute age that if they stayed like this - all cute and relatively easy and immobile and easy to please, we'd have 10! (that was before I knew what the second c-section would feel like!) Macie is following suit. She clings like a sweet little monkey on your hip and smiles with her whole face (especially her eyes) whenever you look at her. She has the big open mouthed smile each morning when you find her standing up at the side of her crib and when you pause by the mirror on the way out.
There is so much more to say......until another late-night mommy internet session!
