Freezing Cold Last Minute Easter Egg Hunts

It was already a busy Saturday with soccer practice at 11 and Kids Church at 6 and maybe even a Birthday Party in between! But it was one of the few Saturday's we had together as a family. It was the start of spring break. And when Jack was little, we did Easter Egg Hunts with him. So I wanted to take everyone and experience this great fun.
As usual, we got a bit of a late start out the door. Then it started drizzling (it was already a bit chilly - around 40 degrees I think!). We were headed to Lazelle Woods Rec Center for the hunt and got there in time, however the egg hunt was in the park around back! So we loaded up the stroller, pushed it quickly through a muddy field as a guy with a megaphone counted down "4 minutes"......"3 minutes"......"2 minutes"

We sent Jack sprinting by himself over to the side of the field that looked like the big kids but turned out to be 9 - 12 year olds.

We surreptitiously slipped into a line up of those looking like 3 and 4 year olds and told Maya to keep her mouth shut.

And with 1 minute to spare, we took a deep breath and waited for the start.

The kids took off and Luke immediately got the hang of it. I followed behind with the camera only to turn around and discover Macie in the abandoned stroller at the starting line 50 feet away! Both Luke and Maya ended up with well stocked baskets and in less than 2 minutes, the entire field was empty and the kids had big giant smiles on their faces. We found Jack and his full basket and made our way over a quarter mile back to the car in a rain shower. After piling in the car with muddy feet and wet jackets, all the eggs were cracked open, only to discover 50% of them had pirate eye patches and 40% had puffy stickers of a pig with a wiggly eyeball and the rest had the best prize....candy. Most of which was too chewy for Jack to eat with his new filling!

Yes, it's a family adventure we will never forget. And for years Mommy will be reminded by Daddy of the absurdity of the commotion that goes into bringing our family to such events. But, its' why we do what we do' :)
